Happy Easter! 22.04.11

As organizers of KNB2011, we would like to kindly wish you calm and cheerful Easter. Let it be a peaceful time spent with your families, during which you can relax and enjoy the warmth of the spring sunshine.

A little bit of event's places' history 18.04.11

We hope that you are enjoying the warmth of spring at least as much as we are. Even if not, we hope that this joyful news shall help. We feel proud to present the most important places where the BNK! events are going to take place. All of the presented places can be found on a KNB2011 map, prepared on Google Maps for your convenience. You can always find it on the Event schedule page.

The 56th Arkonia Ball on Friday May 13th, starting  at 8.30 PM
Warsaw Technician House, 5 Czackiego Str.
The building was raised in 1903-1905 for Polish Technicians Association. Architecture of the building was chosen by a special committee, in which Aleksander de Rosset (Arkonian and Riga Technical University graduate) participated. On the facade Zygmunt Otto, sculptor, placed scupltures of Daedalus and Ikar on top of the building, Archimedes and a woman with radium rays, symbolizing the past and the future. After the war, in which the building has been severely damaged, it was reconstructed to be a habitat of Polish Federation of Engineering Associations.

Holly Mass on Saturday, May 14th, at 11.30
Basilica of St. John the Baptist, 8 Świętojańska Str.
Originally built in the 14th century in Masovian Gothic style, the Cathedral served as a coronation and burial site for numerous Dukes of Masovia. The church was rebuilt several times, most notably in the 19th century, it was preserved until World War II as an example of English Gothic Revival. Leveled by the Germans during the Warsaw Uprising (August–October 1944), it was rebuilt after the war. The exterior reconstruction is based on the 14th-century church's presumed appearance (according to an early-17th-century Hogenberg illustration and a 1627 Abraham Boot drawing), not on its prewar appearance.

Ceremonial meeting on Saturday May 14th at 2 PM
The Royal Castle, Zamkowy Square 4
The Royal Castle in Warsaw is a castle residency and was the official residence of the Polish monarchs. It is located in the Castle Square, at the entrance to the Warsaw Old Town. The personal offices of the king and the administrative offices of the Royal Court of Poland were located there from the 16th century until the Partitions of Poland. In its long history the Royal Castle was repeatedly devastated and plundered by Swedish, Brandenburgian, German, and Russian armies. Today it is a historical and national monument, and is listed as a national museum.

Kommers on Saturday May 14th at 7 PM
Polish Bank Redoubt, 10 Bielańska Str.
The building was raised in 1907-1911 for the russian National Bank, in replacement of a torn down mint of a last polish king, Stanislaw August Poniatowski. During the occupation of Poland it was a habitat of a Bank of Issue. After regaining independence a Polish National Loan functioned there, and after 1926 it was a habitat of a Polish Bank. After the World War II most of the building was torn down leaving only it's west wing, which is registered as a national heritage.
