About Academic Tradition Society

 

Academic Tradition Society was founded in 2007 to examine the past of Polish student corporations, promote knowledge of their history and document present activities of their members. The Society additionally supports operations of active corporations in Poland.

From 2008 the Society has been involved in renovation of a student detention room in the former Riga Polytechnic (nowadays a habitat of University of Latvia). The cell is the only preserved example of student detention places with traces of Polish presence at the Riga Polytechnic including graffiti and inscriptions in Polish.

In 2009 and 2010 members and associates of the Society have conducted cleaning works in Eastern Catholic cemetery in Kremenets, Ukraine where remains of distinguished professors and lecturers of the renowned Polish high school founded by Tadeusz Czacki and called Volhynian Athens or Kremenets High School have been buried. The works aimed at preparing the area for professional renovation of tombs, vaults, gravestones and other commemorative structures.

From the moment of its foundation, the Society has published memorial books of Polish corporations of Sarmatia and Jagiellonia as well as novels based on the lives of Polish fellows: Statyści by Marian Manteuffel, Gaudeamus by Wojciech Baranowski and Dwaj przyjaciele by Ferdynand Hoesick.

The Society is additionally a publisher of "Korporant Polski" and "Historia Academica. Studia i materiały" magazines. With seven issues published thus far, the former is a popular magazine discussing the past and presence of Polish student corporations whereas the latter is of scientific character and two issues have been released to date.

From 2008 research has been conducted by the Society aiming at collection of entries for Biographical dictionary of Polish student corporations' members to be published in the future.

The Academic Tradition Society and Polish Student Corporation Arkonia co-organize the 48th Baltic Nations Kommers which is to be held in Warsaw, Poland in 2011 for the very first time in the event's history.
